Product Description

Motivation, Performance, and Outcomes. [CLOs: 2, 4, 5, 6]. 1st Post Due by Day 3. To be effective, a company must learn to motivate its employees to efficiently and effectively meet the goals of the organization. After reading Chapter 7 in your text, the article “Person-Organization Fit, Family Supportive Organization Perceptions, and Self-Efficacy Affect Work-Life Balance”, and watching the required videos, discuss the following:

  • Explain the difference between content theories of motivation and process theories of motivation. Why is it important to understand the differences?

  • Propose at least three strategies to motivate others in the workplace. Include theoretical support on why these would be productive options.

  • Compare and contrast two motivational theories of your choice (Chapter 7 of your course text). Use the following chart to guide your analysis. Note that extrinsic and intrinsic motivation are types of motivation and should not be presented as theories, but as variables within a theory. To refresh you understanding about how to compare and contrast, click here to view the Comparison/ Contrast Essays video. [Transcript available located under More actions.]

  • Lastly, the text suggests that pay is not usually the driving factor in job satisfaction, but can prevent job dissatisfaction. Based on your reading this week, analyze and explain why you think this is and discuss the pros and cons of using financial incentives in the workplace that are discussed in your text?

Your initial post should be between 300 and 400 words.
Guided Response: Review several of your classmates’ posts. Respond substantively to at least two of your peers. Did they choose differing methods for motivating others? Do you think their suggestions are plausible? Why? How about pay and financial incentives? Consider how to increase discourse about this subject with your peers and apply to your replies. Continue to monitor this discussion board through 5 PM (Mountain Time) on Day 7 of the week. Be sure to also respond to your instructor’s comments to you in this forum by Day 7 (when applicable). Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses.
